Science Showcase

What happened yesterday?

Yesterday was a science showcase where every class have to go to each class and see what they have been learning in science. Our class learned about heat, solar power and solar oven, Wind power, batteries and static electricity. Room 4 was the best class for science because they got lots of interesting experiments.

I didn’t like the science showcase that much because I had to explain four experiments myself all at the same time and they were: Wind Power, Solar power and Solar oven and batteries. I also didn’t go to other classes until the end but it was cool.

I found experiments that were interesting because they were actually real science. The Solar Oven because when you put food in it and you put the oven outside in the sun for a while the sun cooks the food that is inside. The lava lamp was also interesting too because they put a pill in the lava lamp so the fizz can go up.

I learned about the solar oven because the sun went through the foil to cook the food in it. I also learned about static electricity because the plastic got magnetism when you rub it on your hair and when you let go your hair will go up and if you put it on paper it will stick on the plastic.

I will like to have another science showcase so I can learn more about science and teach people about science.

Southern lights

Southern Lights Tama-rereti was interested by the stars. One afternoon he saw stars dancing across the southern sky. He wanted to see where the stars are dancing.  So he built a waka with a totara log. He became a chief then he had warriors The warriors went and sailed for a long time. It was cold and very windy. After a long journey they reached an island. When they came out a wild storm came and big waves threw them to the rocks. The waka burned and broke. All of the warriors died except the two old men who were washed up to shore, barely alive. But eventually the warriors who died were also got washed up to shore. The two old men found the group of stars called the scorpion’s tail or the southern lights.
The legend explained the dancing lights in the southern sky now called Aurora. The name “Aurora” comes from the Latin word meaning sunrise or the Roman goddess who is called dawn. Aurora is a natural light in the sky, usually of greenish colour but sometimes red or blue. This is seen in the Antarctic pole. In Southern hemisphere, this is effect is known as the Aurora Australis (or the Southern Lights). A beautiful and colourful blend of purple, blue, and green lights.  What a beautiful sight!

There once lived a boy named Joe. He was with his freinds.”We are going to get our food”. Joseph and Steve said. “Ok”. I answered. When we came back. “Where’s my laptop”. I said. “I don’t know”. Jerome replied. I went to MR. Tui’s office and said if he saw my laptop and he said he saw a laptop on the floor and one in the office. I went to the office and I didn’t see it on the steps or ground. I asked the pricipal if she found my laptop but she didn’t see it. “ Have you found your laptop? ”. Jerome said. “No”. I replied in dissapointment. “Joe, Joe!”. Johnsen shouted. “I found your laptop”. “Where?!”. I replied. “The teacher put it in your bag”. He said. I put it in my table and we went to play.
