Computers

WALT: write an explanation

Computers
By: Patrick
What are computers? A computer is a mechanic technology where you can do lots of things with it and you can use it as a useful tool.

For the use of computers you need internet so you can go on websites. You can play games on it and that makes you think of  strategies to win the game. The computer is useful for facts because if you need to find facts for school work or for a project you can research on different websites and get different information and facts you may need.  It exercises your fingers  in surfing for information. It  saves paper and pencil for you because your work is saved in the cloud.  Moreso, you don’t need to buy books and stationery to do your inquiry.

More positive things about about computer is that you can shop online instead of going outside in the real world and huggling with people in the shops. You can communicate with other people through email, twitter, social media and facebook. It can increase your reading and writing skills because you can read facts and information on websites and type on microsoft, presentation and google docs. You can research places like Auckland and there are categories like maps or GPS and then you know where you are going. It’s mobile  and use worldwide so you know what’s going on in the other side of the world.

Some negative facts are that you can go on bad sites you’re not allowed on without a parent watching you. You need to know cybersafety rules to protect you. You can not copy facts on websites and the common copywrite company will be looking on your work to see if your facts are copied .  You need to write your facts in your own words.  Sometimes  it can freeze a lot and crash and lose memory on what you are doing.  If you go on the computer for too long you might get addicted with it and you will never get off. You need to pay a lot  of electricity if you use it too much.  It makes you eyes hurt if you  work and look at it for too long and do things on it. Sometimes other people can go on your own computers and go on things you're not allowed  on and your parents might think you went on it.

The Computer is great tool and it has many good uses and also bad uses.  I think it is still a good tool and a better technology  to use by all in the future.

Book Reveiw

Book Review- Spirit Animals
Spirit Animals was about four people who had animals that look like spirits and go through lots of adventures to destroy evil. Some trouble came to them when some old allies working with their enemies and the group tried to go and get their old allies back. Their success will have to come later in the future but they will get there.

My favourite part of the story is when they defeated the evil at the end and got more spirit animals and they got better and better, Until……

This is a book that you should read. I recommend that this should be given 4-10 stars. The animals are spirits and they are like superheroes.

Pajama Bus Thief
A city bus in Saskatoon, Canada was stolen by a 9 year old boy in pajamas and took it for a ride. Why was the boy in pajamas? Maybe he was ready to go to bed?

The bus was left in a garage with the engine running by a worker and the boy has seen this and took the chance to drive the bus. He did not think at all, for he was on his pajamas. He drove the bus to town and guess what happened.

The boy was driving really fast and the bus suddenly stopped when it hit a truck and another bus. No one was injured but the bus had a crack on the windshield and a broken window.

New Dinosaur Found
In Argentina, new fossils have been found that made one of the biggest dinosaurs ever been discovered.
Scientists have 70% of the bones needed to complete the massive, long-necked, plant-eating Dreadnoughtus schrani , dinosaur which is one of the biggest animals to have ever lived on earth.
They thought that this dinosaur measured to 26 metres and weighed almost 60 tonnes. Its tail alone measured 9m long. That’s long enough like the length of a bus.
The  skeleton revealed that the dinosaur was still growing at the time of its death.  Nobody knew how big it would become.
Based on the location of the rocks where the fossils were found it was believed that the young dinosaur was killed by a massive flood that occurred that time.  Scientists thought Dreadnoughtus was a huge animal and would have had no predators. All other creatures would have been terrified of its size.

Te Tahawai marae

Te Tahawai Marae
On Monday the year 5, 6, 7 and 8 went to Te Tahawai Marae in Pakuranga . We went on a double decker bus and the boys were at the bottom and the girls were at the top. When we got there it was silent, the boys had to be at the back of the line and the girls at the front.

We were outside the waharoa as the manuhiri and the tangata whenua and Rose, Azaria and Caroline did the Karanga as we walked in to the marae. Before we got into the Marae, we had to take our shoes off because they don’t want to have their marae dirty. The boys sat at the front and the girls at the back. The hosts did prayers and sang and Bronson did a speech but he messed it up but he did it right the second time and he put the koha down. After that we did the singing. The tangata whenua apoligised because there was no men watching. After that we did the hongi and we washed our hands because it was a tradition and protocol they do.

In the Wharekai, we ate one cookie and a glass of water. After we finished eating,  the tangata whenua put us into groups, the year 5 girls were in one group and the boys and year 8 were in another group. The year 5 girls were writing patterns on ancestors in the wharenui and the boys and room 4 drew an eternal line with korus to show our family in the wharekai.

After we finished the first lesson the year 5 were still doing the patterns on the ancestors and we got two poi’s and we danced with them to a song shaking our pois in and out, up and down. We had to spread out because the pois were hard and it would hit other people’s faces. Later after both groups finished, we swapped places and the boys and room 4 did the patterns on the ancestors. The year 5 girls were doing the eternal line and poi dance.

Twenty minutes after the lessons, we all gathered at the wharenui and the tangata whenua told us they liked our visit and they hope if we come again there will be men or boys.  Mrs Driver gave a final speech for the tangata whenua. We went outside we put our shoes outside, we went to the bus. We went back to school before lunch and ate before lunchtime.
